Product Description
Malaseb is for treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis associated with infections by Staphylococcus intermedius, Malassezia (Pityrosporum) pachydermatis and an aid in the treatment of dermatophyte infections due to Microsporum canis, Microsporum gypseum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes in dogs and cats. Treatment of inflammatory forms of seborrhoea and an aid in the treatment of bacterial dermatitis and fungal infections of the skin in dogs and cats.
Malaseb is formulated to remove dirt and scale, degrease the skin and kill cutaneous micro-organisms that primarily or secondarily cause seborrhoeic dermatitis. Miconazole is a synthetic imidazole derivative that has a pronounced antifungal effect against Malassezia pachydermatis, the dermatophytes Microsporum canis, M. gypseum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes and a potent activity against Gram+ve bacteria. Chlorhexidine is an effective antimicrobial agent against many Gram-ve and Gram+ve bacteria, yeasts, moulds and fungi. The combination of miconazole and chlorhexidine effectively kills the causative organisms of seborrhoeic dermatitis: Malassezia (Pityrosporum) pachydermatis and Staphylococcus intermedius. S. intermedius occurs as an overgrowth pathogen in the presence of Malassezia and is the main bacterial species responsible for bacterial dermatitis in the dog and cat.
Dosage & Administration
Wet the animal thoroughly with clean water. Apply shampoo to the animal at several points and massage into the coat. A sponge assists lathering and penetration of the coat. Ensure that shampoo is applied around the lips, under the tail and between the toes, as these areas harbour causative organisms. Allow to stand for 10 minutes and then rinse off with clean water. Repeat twice-weekly until symptoms abate, then weekly, or as directed by your veterinary surgeon. 50mL should be enough to treat a 30kg dog of medium hair-length and 7–10mL for an adult cat.
Shelf-life of 3 years. Store below 30°C (room temperature)
