How to Take a DNA Swab

Collection Procedure Buccal swab collection is a simple non-invasive DNA collection procedure. Results from buccal swabs are as reliable as from blood samples.   Remember Always collect samples from one dog at a time. Always hold the swabs by the plastic/wooden shaft. Buccal swabs are collected by rubbing the inside of the cheek (not against the tongue or gums), using a circular motion. Collected samples must be returned to the laboratory for analysis as soon as possible. Gloves must be worn throughout the collection and packaging procedure.
